Spurs’ Son ran the length of the pitch to score a spectacular individual goal last weekend against Burnley. His consistent performances and lack of public recognition leads me to believe Son is the most underrated Premier League player.
This led me to creating a list of the all-time underrated Premier League players starting with a goalkeeper.
This American was second to David James at Liverpool before playing for Blackburn, Villa and Spurs. He scored against Charlton and saved two penalties in a single game against Charlton. Guessed yet?
Brad Friedel! A consistent Premier League performer for over a decade with some memorable performances makes him my most underrated PL keeper.
Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate, Kolo Toure are all great defenders but for me the most underrated Premier League defender? Ricardo Carlvalho.
The Portuguese and Chelsea star partnered John Terry in the title winning season of 2004-2005 where they conceded 15 goals and lost once. He was an aggressive and brutal defender, feared by many opposition strikers. But his name is never mentioned when discussing great Premier League defenders.
Leaving Son aside picking a midfielder was horrendously hard. So I remained neutral and chose Robert Pires. Michael Carrick and James Milner crossed my minds but Pires was spectacular to watch in his simplicity. Pires could link up with teammates, burst past opposition defenders make or pass and score a goal. He was a complete winger that doesn’t get the recognition he deserves for his six seasons at Arsenal.
Picking just one striker is tough because I could make an argument for so many! I don’t know if his podcast or footballing abilities won it for me but Peter Crouch is my most underrated Premier League striker.
His height and record of scoring the most headed goals (51) in Premier League history means his other qualities get overlooked. His striking partnership with Defoe, a hat-trick against Arsenal and THAT goal against Manchester City encapsulate some of the special moments he produced in a long career as a great Premier League striker.
So that concludes my band of outsiders. I implore you to think of any current or former underappreciated Premier League players. Does anyone deserve a place in this line-up?

Hahaha! He has the record for scoring in the most consecutive champions league games… so maybe the most underrated UCL player?
