The play has reintroduced the evil villain everyone loves to hate.
Mourinho has replaced Pochettino as Tottenham boss following his surprise sacking last week.
Taking Spurs from the doldrums of mediocrity to a Champions League final in the space of five years with a Net Spend of £35 million, Pochettino has proven himself one of the world’s best coaches.
Tottenham under Pochettino became resilient, aggressive and had a sense of identity that was adored by all mutual fans. I often refer to the first half performance of Spurs’ 2-0 victory against Manchester City as my favourite first half performance I’ve ever watched, and that’s coming from a Gunner!
Mourinho’s appointment means Tottenham can forget being a side loved by everyone for a while. He is an elite coach and a serial winner. He’s appeared jovial all week, especially after a nervous 3-2 away victory to West Ham.
But with a tendency to self-explode after three years is Mourinho the correct replacement? Or was sacking Pochettino a mistake all together?
The real question is what do Spurs fans value more; Success or entertainment?
As Johan Cruyff once said: “Entertainment without results is pointless, and results without entertainment is boring”.
It would appear the Tottenham board have already made their decision. With a newly built stadium and squad members running down their contracts is Mourinho the man to take Spurs through their period of uncertainty? I’m sure the so-called “humble one” will keep us entertained either way!
