Leicester equalled a 24-year-old record set by Manchester United against Ipswich for the most goals scored in a single game last weekend when they defeated Southampton 9-0 at St Mary’s last week!
Southampton are the only previous side to concede two hat-tricks in a game, Arsenal being the first side to do so (Can you guess the two hat-trick goal scorers?). The Saints are also the second side to be 5 goals down at half time (Man City 5-0 Burnley, 2010). These aren’t records you want on your CV.
Hasenhüttl claimed 100% responsibility for the annihilation. The manager failed to change anything after Bertrand’s dismissal which kick-started the decimation of the Saints. But the opposite attitudes of both sides not just following the red card, but for the whole game was the main reason for this demolition.
Vardy claimed at 6-0 Evans was pushing Leicester to continue scoring as he knew the 9-0 record was in sight. In comparison the Southampton side were toothless, embarrassing and overall a disgrace to their club.
Not taking any credit away from Leicester who have improved immensely under the current best British manger around. They thoroughly deserve their place in the league following that result up with a great 2-0 away win at Palace.
The Saints can be proud of their two away performances at the Etihad this week despite losing both. If they continue to play as well as they have this week, their position in the league should look a lot better come Christmas time.
But you never know what’s around the corner in the Premier League!
